Minutes … Meeting, Thurs., August 5, 2010
Meeting called to order by Chairman
Kevin McCarthy at 7:05 p.m. at the Pratt Memorial Library, Cohasset.
I.
Review of Meeting Policy
In future, guest speakers will not
participate in or be invited to SSDC monthly meetings.
Meeting time will be spent in planning and coordinating events.
II.
Press Release for Congressional
Candidates’ Forum to be held Aug. 30
Kevin McCarthy distributed the draft he
prepared. Input made by several members. Final draft approved by Caucus. Kevin
will e-mail the revised Press Release to each Caucus member.
He will also notify the Quincy
Ledger and the South Section of
The Boston Globe.
Each Caucus member is to distribute the Press Release to his/her local
Town Committee and to the local press.
III.

Cost:
Each Town Com. has contributed $20.00 to cover expenses.
Timers:
Kevin Butler and Bruce Burgess will arrange for two people to monitor
response times for the candidates.
Kevin McCarthy will acknowledge all
candidates for other offices who are present.
Format:
1.
Each candidate will give a five minute
introductory speech.
2.
Q&A… A coin toss will determine which
candidate answers the question first. Kevin will read the question .
Each candidate will have a 2 min. response time. When 1.5 min. have
elapsed, the timer will raise a Warning card.
At 2.0 min., the timer will raise a Stop card.
3.
Each candidate
may make a 30 sec. rebuttal.
4.
Each Candidate
will make a 5 min. Closing Statement.
5.
If any questions
arise through the evening, please contact Kevin McCarthy or Kevin Butler.
IV.
Campaign
Work and other notices.
Nancy Melia noted that very little if
any attention is being paid in the press to the State Primaries
which take place on Sept. 14, 2010.
John Bowes who is one of the 35 core
organizers in the state, gave a brief update on the Patrick/Murray Campaign.
“Get10 for Patrick” emphasizes the importance of getting pledge cards
signed. Mary Curtiss noted that
Hull organizing committee had its first meeting and has planned visibilities as
well as one on one contact to “get 10.”
Kevin McCarthy brought up the idea of
seeking community input by conducting a poll. Consensus:
not formally by the SSDC at this time.
Kevin, as an individual, plans to send out a survey and see what the
results are.
Kevin will post the By-Laws of the SSDC
on the website.
V.
Members List:
Each Town have three representatives.
Discussion followed about necessity of having Town Chair on the Member
Notification List. Final Decision:
No. It is up to the Town rep. to inform the Chair and other town members of the
SSDC plans, events, etc.
